The ‘Birch’ Collection
Sol’s Sister, London, June 2026
The initial seed for this collection of oil paintings was planted following a visit to the Emily Kam Kngwarray exhibition at Tate Modern, and is inspired in part by Kngwarray’s textiles and spiritual connection to the earth. While experimenting with age old methods to create natural dyes, Horberry discovered the hidden abundance of colour held within hyper-seasonal, foraged wild plants and produce.
With a shared love of nature and foraging, there followed a creative collaboration with London based chef Leci Danvers. The process itself became as important as the final paintings, rooted in learning, exploration, and time spent in nature. While hiking through Buttermere collecting gorse, to scouring the shoreline for Irish moss seaweed, the vision for the Birch series of paintings evolved and grew. Over six months the collection became an exploration of the seasons, the elements and the relationship between nature, creativity, food and art. All that sustains us as humans. Each work carries the trace of the landscape and ingredients from which it was born.
Each painting in the Birch collection was created using natural dyes made from the same foraged ingredients woven through a menu crafted by Chef Danvers for the Birch event and first private viewing of The Birch Collection in June 2026.
